This shape is a symbolic representation of a spiral galaxy. It is on top of the logo because it illustrates a field galaxy as we can observe today (at redshift zero, that is the maximum expansion of the cone).

The curve symbolizes the accelerated expansion of the universe since the hypothetical Big Bang (bottom) until today (top).
